Hi, I'm Alexander
I live in Belgium and I like building things with software, maps and data. Most days that means GIS, cable and pipe data, spreadsheets that need fixing and little scripts that save an hour here and there.
caike is where I put the tools that turned out useful. Some started as a quick fix for my own work, some are ideas I wanted to try. If they help you too, great. That's the whole point.
Free, and it stays free
- Every tool is free to use, without an account or a sign-up.
- There are no paid versions, no limits and no premium features waiting behind a button.
- If you want to help out, you can leave a tip, report a bug or suggest a tool. Everything stays free and available either way.
Your data stays yours
- The tools run in your browser. Files you open are read on your own device and are never uploaded.
- No cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels and no ads. Not even the harmless kind.
- Fonts and scripts come from this site only. The one exception is the background map in the map tools, which loads tiles from OpenFreeMap. They set no cookies either.
- The site is set up with GDPR and ISO 27001 in mind: privacy by design, no personal data collected, strict security headers and no outside scripts.
- Because nothing is stored, there's nothing to delete or request. If you close the tab, your data is gone.
Why the name
caike is cake with AI in the middle. The tools are grouped in layers, geo and data, the same way a map is built from layers. Take the one you need and leave the rest.
How the tools are made
Most of these tools started with an AI-assisted first draft. After that I tested them on real data and shaped them by hand until they did one job well. AI is the cherry, not the cake.
Ingredients
The tools are built on open source work: proj4js, fflate, SQLite, MapLibre GL and OpenFreeMap with OpenStreetMap data. The Lambert 72 grid (EPSG:8369) is by Nicolas Simon, released under CC BY 4.0.
Support on Ko-fi
If a tool saved you some time and you feel like saying thanks, you can leave a tip on Ko-fi. It goes into hosting, a domain name and the odd coffee.
Something broken, or an idea?
